Dedicated employees empowered to promote success for every student serve meals in an innovative learning environment, respectful of each student's needs and differences.
I had the opportunity to spend 4 days observing the school lunch program in Montgomery County, MD. This program uses a centralized kitchen in which they supply breakfast and lunch to 202 school in the county, from Pre-K/Head Start to high school.
During this rotation I was able to:
- Review requirements for the National School Lunch Program.
- Participated in school breakfast assessment at an elementary school in Silver Spring, MD.
- Observed and participated in lunch packing and development at centralized kitchen & packing facility.
- Learned about USDA school breakfast & lunch guidelines, financial planning, budgeting, reimbursement, & menu planning.
- Created promotional material to be mailed out to families of school lunch recipients.
- Achieved exceeds expectations evaluation.
