Franklin Square Hospital
Baltimore, MD January 14 - March 22, 2013
Franklin Square Hospital is a 380-bed acute care hospital is Baltimore, MD. This ten week rotation focused on acute care dietetics for patients with a variety of medical conditions using the nutrition care process. Patients were seen for RN consults, tube feed & TPN consults, MD consults, diet educations and medical condition/diagnosis. I was also able to teach a class on healthy eating after your joint replacement surgery. My rotations at Franklin Square included:
- 2 weeks inpatient oncology, with one day observation in outpatient oncology clinic.
- 3 weeks on medical/surgical floors covering GI, renal, oncology, gastric bypass, diabetes, & respiratory.
- 2 weeks cardiac.
- 1 week Intensive Care Unit.
- 2 weeks of staff relief covering my own med/surg floor, seeing 10-12 patients per day.
Children's National Medical Center
Washington, DC March 26 - April 5, 2013
Advanced practice rotation in pediatric dietetics. This 303-bed hospital focuses on inpatient acute care for children with specialty outpatient clinics located on and off-site in the DC Metro area. During my two weeks, I had the opportunity to work with both inpatient and outpatient pediatric populations, and was able to interview, counsel & chart patients in the inpatient setting; as well as, contribute to counseling in the outpatient setting. Received exceeds expectations on pediatric case study titled "Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus in a 13 year old male patient."
- 1 week pulmonary with focus on Cystic Fibrosis.
- 1 week outpatient diabetes and pediatric weight management.
Baltimore Washington Medical Center
Glen Burnie, MD May 21 - May 31, 2013
Baltimore Washington Medical Center is a 307-bed hospital affiliated with the University of Maryland Medical System and BWMC has been ranked as one of the top 5% of hospitals nationwide by HealthGrades. During my two weeks at BWMC, I was able to enhance my MNT and counseling skills working with patients on multiple floors using the nutrition care process. While there, I became familiar with Epic electronic health record for charting and researching clients as the hospital is paperless. During my two weeks there, I was able to work with patients in oncology, ICU, renal, nutrition support, respiratory, GI, cardiac, and diabetes.
